Our founders so strongly believed in the ability of a core group of young, vibrant minds to improve humanity and pull it from the brink of disaster that they donated everything they owned to The Tetherlands. The Democratic Trust of The Tetherlands lives on with their gifts, and The Tetherlands is constitutionally mandated to uphold certain core principles which mandate a goal of improving humanity.
Wealthy in life, they saw and were frustrated by the political gridlock that kept very important decisions from being made.
Upon their death, these people saw to it that their wealth, real estate, corporations, and industries were repatriated to The Tetherlands, nationalized, and set to work on improving humanity.
One way The Tetherlands aims to improve humanity is by leveraging unique skills in engineering, manufacturing, and transportation.
Recent technological improvements in high-strenth materials have made it feasible to build a space elevator. On our islands, we have four tethered platforms, with regular service to space: geostationary orbit and beyond.
Our near term goals include a fuel depot at Lagrangian point L1, an in-situ resource facility on the moon, and the colonization of Mars.

We want the brightest minds of humanity to join us in our pursuits. If you have what it takes, you can become a citizen of The Tetherlands. A citizenship test is necessary, but the biggest problems in the world require the strongest will on Earth.
